There’s something about summer fashion that I love. Don’t get me wrong, I love autumn and winter fashion too but in summer you can just throw on a dress or a play suit and it somehow works all the time. If you’re on holiday it’s kinda too hot to sit wondering about what to wear. Anything that you’ll be comfy in is a winner when it’s boiling hot! In the UK we don’t really get summer as such. We get the odd day of sun here and there but the majority of the summer weather isn’t great.. saying that we seem to be having a heat wave out of nowhere lately and I love it! This heat wave caused me to go into panic mode and complain about how I have no clothes even when my wardrobe is full… anyone else do this?
Feeling confident in summer is something a lot of people struggle with. It’s the time of year when the majority of the time you have to get more skin out than you usually would and that can often be scary for some. We all feel self-conscious sometimes and I know if I put on an outfit and I don’t fall in love with it, I won’t feel comfortable wearing it. Here’s some of my top tips for feeling confident this summer:
- Fake tan
Life always seems so much better with a tan! My favourite at the minute is the Bondi Sands Dark tan but I make sure I’ve shaved, exfoliated and moisturised before applying it. You can get so many instant tans these days or gradual tans which aren’t too full on. I’ve tried this Dove Gradual Tan before which didn’t blow me away, but if you fancy a bit of a natural glow rather than looking like you’ve come back from a two-week holiday this will be for you!
2. Instagram isn’t always real
I’ve spoken about this before on my Instagram stories but what you see on Instagram isn’t always real. Most of us choose the best parts to share, we don’t always show the downsides. We upload the edited photos, the one we feel is the best out of about 40 crap ones. People use filters, teeth whitening apps, tanning apps, you name it you can probably get it these days which is why you need to remember when scrolling down Instagram that what you see is not real. We’ve all been there – you go through a break up (read my moving on guide here) and you want to keep uploading photos of yourself looking a 10/10 so another girl might be going through that stage too you never know! Don’t let that make you feel insecure about yourself because who looks glam 24/7? Nobody.
3. What do you love about yourself?
We often focus on the negatives but why not make a list on your notes on your phone of things you like about yourself? Read it when you feel down. I always find when I do my makeup nice too it always makes me feel 10x better! Throw on a red lip it works wonders.
Onto feeling confident outfit wise! I’m not usually one for maxi dresses mainly because I feel like they drown me out – I’m not the tallest of people! However, this dress from Boohoo has changed my mind. It’s from the petite section which is perfect for me because as I mentioned, some of the dresses I’ve tried from other places have always been much too big. When I tried it on I fell in love with it. They do a red one too but I thought the black would go with more and it looks good even with just flip-flops.
You can dress the Boohoo maxi dress I’m wearing up or down which is another reason why I love it. As I said, you can either wear it with flip-flops or wear it with heels and jewellery for a party etc so it’s perfect for any occasion. You can browse what other dresses Boohoo have here so you can get the best summer fashion inspo possible!
