I’ll hold my hands up now and say I’m a makeup addict. I don’t even have enough space in my makeup storage yet I still seem to buy more.. I’m not the only one, right? Today I thought I’d put together a few of my ‘high end’ favourite products incase some of you are looking at getting some new makeup or are just generally interested in what makeup other people use. In a separate post I’m going to also show you my favourite drugstore products for those of you who want to see a more affordable version.
Let’s start with foundation. I couldn’t decide between Estee Lauder Double Wear or Nars Sheer Glow but in the end I went with Sheer Glow. I’ve used it for years and it’s still one of my favourites. I really like how it doesn’t look heavy on the skin and it literally feels like you aren’t wearing foundation. It gives a natural, glowing finish to the skin which I’m all for and it creates a really smooth base before you do the rest of your makeup on top.
In terms of highlighting and contouring (which I’m a huge fan of), I have to make sure the contour is not too dark for my skin. I have quite pale skin so I stay away from any shades that appear too orange. The Anastasia Contour Kit is a great one and you can read my full review here. The shade on the bottom right I don’t use as much because it’s really dark but every other shade I find myself reaching for. I recently found a new highlighter that I’ve fallen completely in love with (I’m going to keep you all in suspense a little longer until my review is up) but another favourite of mine is Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. It’s a gorgeous peach shade with lots of shimmer and it lasts a long time on the skin which is what everyone wants really. It’s soft, easy to blend and it adds plenty of highlight to the cheekbones. Under my eyes I like to use Mac Prep & Prime Highlighter and it’s my absolute favourite by far. I used to use the Collection concealer for under my eyes but it didn’t work as well as the Mac one so I switched back. I go for the shade ‘Light Boost’ as it’s the lightest and on top of my foundation it brightens under the eye area really well.. who wants under eye bags? Not me!
As a powder, I’d recommend the Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in the shade Medium (I promise this post isn’t sponsored by Mac!). It’s a light coverage powder that I put on top of my foundation to keep everything in place as we don’t want it going anywhere! I’ve had the Dior Rosy Glow Blush in Petal for so long and I still absolutely love it. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s well worth the money. The only downside I’d say is you don’t get much product because of the stupid brush which no one ever uses (see above) but it’s lasted me a long time so I can’t really complain. It’s really brightening..hence the name Rosy Glow duhhh… and just looks really pretty on the cheeks.
Brows are also just as important to me as highlight and contouring so making sure my brows are on fleek is a must! I like to use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in the shade Chocolate, however, it can get a little messy and it’s easy to go overboard with too much product. I think it does take practice and you’ll soon learn how much product you need.
I own way too many lip products so cutting it down to just four was extremely hard! It was up there with trying to get my eyeliner flicks even every morning I swear!! I’ll go with the prettiest first – YSL Lipstick in Peach Passion. I don’t know if they still do this anymore because when I’ve just tried to link it for you it hasn’t come up. YSL lipsticks are so creamy and are literally a dream to apply. The packaging is just a dream too! I really love the gold and pink together.
I also have a weakness for Chanel lipsticks.. I own way too many. One of my favourites is Bonheur – it’s a sheer plum shade with shimmer in it and I highly recommend Chanel lipsticks too. This won’t come as a surprise to any of you but Mac Ruby Woo is my go-to red lip. I think a red lip changes your whole makeup look, however this one is a little drying because it’s so matte but it’s still my favourite.
Last but not least, if you ever see Buxom Lip Glosses anywhere have a look. The only place I could see that sell it is Sephora but I had mine in the Clothes Show in Birmingham. It’s basically a lip gloss that gives a tingling sensation on the lips and makes you feel like you have bigger lips. At first, I was wondering what the heck was going on and I couldn’t stand it but after time I really liked it and it does make you feel like you have the perfect pout going on!
